About Nina’s Paris

  • Nina’s traces its history to a distiller of rose and lavender essences who supplied the court of Louis XVI, and its blends still take their names from Versailles. Fête de Versailles is the celebratory one: a black tea scented with honey and spice, with orange peel and safflower and cornflower petals for color, in the house’s collectible tin.

How to brew

  • A teaspoon per cup; water just off the boil
  • Three to four minutes, then take the leaves out
  • Cool and pour over ice with a slice of orange for iced tea

How to enjoy

  • Brew for afternoon tea or cool for a fragrant iced tea
  • Serve with citrus cake, spice cookies or breakfast pastries
  • Give to a tea drinker who prefers aromatic black blends

Questions

  • Milk or not? It takes milk better than the Marie-Antoinette; the spice stands up to it.
  • Caffeinated? Yes, it is a black tea.
  • Which Nina’s to choose? Fête de Versailles for spice and warmth; Marie-Antoinette for apple and rose; Je T’aime for vanilla and caramel.

Pairs with

  • Clément Faugier chestnut cream on toast beside it; acacia honey to sweeten. Everything we carry from Nina’s Paris, and more French teas and gift tins.

Lello’s Point of View

  • Why we chose it. Fête de Versailles is the Nina’s tea for people who want warmth rather than delicacy: black tea, orange peel, spice and colorful petals make it feel celebratory before the cup is even poured.
  • What it makes better. Afternoon tea, breakfast pastries and iced tea gain aromatic depth without needing syrups or sweeteners to create interest.
  • How we would use it. Brew it three to four minutes and serve hot with chestnut cream on toast, or cool it completely and pour over ice with orange in warmer weather.
  • Who will love it. Aromatic black-tea drinkers, Versailles romantics and gift recipients who prefer spice and citrus to overtly floral blends.
  • Why it earns its place. A French 80 g gift tin blending black tea with orange peel, safflower and cornflower gives this tea visual beauty, fragrance and enough structure to take milk if desired.
