Laguiole Black Knives in Presentation Box (Set of 6) – detail view 2

Six black-handled Laguiole table knives, presented in a wooden box. Their classic French styling brings a coordinated finish to everyday place settings and makes the set a useful gift for a new home or a well-used dining table.

What “Laguiole” means

Laguiole is a village on the Aubrac plateau in the Aveyron, where the folding knife that bears its name was first made in 1829: a slender blade, a narrow handle, and the bee that traditionally sits at the top of it. The name was never protected, and much of what is sold as “Laguiole” has nothing to do with France. These are made in France, in the Laguiole profile, as everyday table knives: lighter than a steak knife, meant for the daily table rather than the grill.

Questions

How are these different from the Jean Dubost steak knives? Weight and purpose. The Jean Dubost set is the heavier, name-brand steak knife from a historic Laguiole house; these are lighter table knives in the same profile, made in France, at a quarter of the price.

Dishwasher? They will survive it, but hand-washing and drying keeps the handles and rivets looking new.

Black or ivory? A question of the table. Black suits dark wood and stoneware; the ivory set suits linen and white porcelain.

Lello’s Point of View

Why we chose it. Black-handled Laguiole knives bring definition to the table. They are classic enough to ignore trends, but dark enough to give white porcelain, linen or stoneware a sharper point of view.

What it makes better. Six coordinated table knives resolve the place setting immediately and cut more comfortably than the generic knife that came bundled with everyday flatware.

How we would use it. Set them against cream linen and white plates for contrast, or lean into the darker look with walnut and stoneware. Hand wash and dry to keep the presentation crisp.

Who will love it. The host building a French-inspired table, the design-conscious newlywed and anyone who wants Laguiole character without moving into collector-level steak-knife pricing.

Why it earns its place. Six French-made stainless-steel table knives in a wooden presentation box deliver the recognizable Laguiole profile, coordinated utility and gift-ready presentation for $106.

About Laguiole

Laguiole is not a single brand. It is a French knife tradition and recognizable form associated with the Aubrac region, which is why the details of construction and maker matter more than the word alone. Lello treats these as table tools first: the profile is elegant, but the knife still has to feel right in the hand and work through dinner.
